Good Decisions?

Decision making is complicated. So much seems to be riding on us getting it right.

But how do we discern what is God’s will when the options before us are both equally good? It was so much simpler when the choice was between good and evil, between purity and sin, between the narrow way and the wide road. At least then there was clarity.

But what do you do when neither option is sinful? When the choice is between good and good? When the stakes are high, but there’s no clear-cut path to take?

Here are three questions that are currently helping me:

What does love call for?

What would I do if I wasn’t afraid?

What is the mind of Christ?

If love is the measure of our success, what does it require of me?

If fear paralyses, then what would I do if I was free of its grip?

If I am co-labouring with Christ, what’s on His mind for me?

If you’re in a valley of decision and there’s not an obvious course of action to take, sit with those three questions.

Bring them to the Lord in prayer.

Wait in the stillness.

Journal your thoughts and emotions.

Ask for His peace.

Step forward in faith.
