100 Days

God doesn’t waste anything.

At the start of the first COVID-19 lockdown, uncertain how to communicate with the church I love, I decided to broadcast an online devotion each evening, thinking I might do this for a week or two at maximum. It turned out that I prepared 100 short talks and delivered them ‘live’ via social media for 100 consecutive days. In the daytime I would write out these devotional talks by hand, and then at the end of the night I would place them into a folder and forget about them.

When the lockdowns came to an end, I sensed a prompting to reopen that file, take out those handwritten notes, and turn them into a book of daily devotions. Collaborating with my friend, Sope Agbelusi, an executive coach, we embarked on what became a two-year journey of creating the ‘100 Day Devotional’, a journal that encourages its readers to slow down, engage with scripture, reflect on some insightful questions and then determine to take action.

Is it possible that a person’s life can be changed in 100 days? There’s all kinds of research out there that suggests that a life-changing habit can be formed in a set number of days, somewhere between 6 weeks and 66 days seems to be the most popular options! All I know is that ‘I become what I repeat.’ If I do something often enough, it creates a habit that shapes my heart. I would dare to speculate that if someone reads their Bible, takes time to reflect on what God might be saying to them through the text, open their hearts to the loving presence of their Heavenly Father, be intentional about taking action AND then do that for 100 consecutive days, their lives might just be changed forever.

What I know is that God doesn’t waste anything.

He doesn’t waste a folder full of random handwritten talks.

He won’t waste the time that a seeker devotes to knowing Him better.

He won’t waste those 100 days of open hearted devotion.
